We support green, growth-oriented enterprises through annual competitions, business development programmes, and guidance in responsible management practices.

Why enterprises?

Small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) face a weakened business environment, and often lack access to financial and business development services.

What did we do?

This project strengthened professional training institutions and community-based skills development initiatives in Zimbabwe in two ways:

1. Green enterPRIZE Innovation Challenge

The Innovation Challenge identified hundreds of growth-oriented small- and medium-sized enterprises from emerging and established enterprises.

The winners gained access to financial and technical services, while 500 runners-up benefited from training and capacity building services. A network of business development services providers provided training, coaching, and post-challenge technical support.

2. Sustaining Competitive and Responsible Enterprises (SCORE)

Sustaining Competitive and Responsible Enterprises (SCORE) is a global ILO programme that improves productivity and working conditions in small- and medium-sized enterprises.

We rolled out SCORE to 40 small- and medium-sized enterprises. The SCORE methodology combines classroom learning with workplace consultations. It encourages workers and managers to respond to challenges and needs by working together and thinking in innovative ways.

What is the long term goal?

To secure job-rich sustainable growth, Zimbabwe must shift toward long-term productivity and earnings across all economic sectors. The ILO approaches job creation by stimulating innovation and by linking productivity with better working conditions.
