“Through art we can lead others to see, we create awareness.
Small shifts in our thinking and in our use of materials can lead to more sustainable practices.
Art embodies transformation; we turn something like waste into something beautiful, something new.
Through our imagination we can use waste and give it a new purpose, a second life, a new direction”

Artwork statement: “This work focuses on unborn generations and the impact of the changing world in which we live and work. It explores the need to travel far from home to look for meaningful opportunities. It encapsulates the connection (or lack thereof) of the future generation to the place where they were born, as they will work from different locations, travel more for their jobs, and stay connected online 24/7. As the world becomes more interconnected, we will be challenged to function in a world of contradictions: as the connection through online channels becomes stronger, the connection to a location fades away.”

Q&A:

  • Who or what influences your art? How would you like your art to influence others?

My art reflects a deep connection to and preoccupation with my country’s struggles, from the social injustices of migration to the impacts of colonialism on society and culture.
