“I am known in the music world as a groovy sound creator and stage energy machine.”
Blessing “Bled” Chimanga
Artwork statement: “I wrote this song as an anthem to encourage people to go the green economy way. It is an energetic song. The idea is that it is a sing-along for everyone.”
- What was your experience with art as a child and growing up?
I started my music career as a percussion and piano player, and then joined the jazz band in high school.
- How did it evolve over time?
I started my professional music career in 2006, when I started to play for Zimbabwean musicians like the late Sam Mtukudzi, Oliver Mtukudzi, Hope Masike, Busi Ncube, Dudu Manhenga, Chiwoniso Maraire, and Tariro neGitare. Since then, I’ve performed and done workshops with established and aspiring musicians from all over the world.
- What do you think sets you apart from other artists in Zimbabwe?
As the founder of a charity program called “Big Smile,” I am also a philanthropist. The mission and vision for the programme is to go to many childrens’ and old age homes and offer entertainment. I love seeing the big smiles on those peoples’ faces. The project is also a way to give back to the community, through music and donations.
